While never owning an Asus laptop, i have only heard good things and have always wanted one. However i have always been a big fan of the Dell Latitude series despite the hardware failures i have personally encountered. I had a D600 from dell from 2003-2009, which worked great but i had to send it in for warranty several times in the first 3 years. After that i had several problems i had to fix on my own which were all fairly easy for someone like me to fix and pretty cheap as well, buying the majority of the spare parts on ebay. In the last year i ran my D600, there was not a single part on it that was original, several parts had even been replaced several times over, like the lid hinge, which was absolute crap in that model. In my current laptop, D620, they have made a huge advancement in the hinge and i have not had to replace it. In fact the only hardware failure ive had so far was the power jack loosening up which just needed some new solder. Despite the fact that my personal ownership with laptops does not extend beyond Dells, i have personally serviced many other brands of laptops. From my experience fixing laptops, i completely agree with the statistics above. I have very rarely ever worked on Toshiba's, and Sony's while i have serviced many more HP's and Acer's.
