Quad Core is so overrated, i mean don't get me wrong here, its certainly good progress, similarly as going dual core from single core was. I cant imagine running single core anymore. But even with quad cores being on the market for a couple of years now, they still don't offer any benefit in the majority of apps. Its mainly games that are coded for multiple cores and even then most of them don't see huge gains. In fact my E8600 Dual Core surprisingly beats an i7 Quad in several applications and provides nearly the same performance in many others. I'm sure that in several years from now programs will be written to perform better with multiple cores, i would hope so with hexicores out there now and octicores coming out fairly soon. But dont take my word for it, check out this comparison by Toms Hardware of the cpu i run vs. some of the current generations (Nehalem) quad core competition.
